Environmental monitoring describes the processes and activities that need to take place to characterise and monitor the quality of the environment. Environmental monitoring is used in the preparation of environmental impact assessements, as well as other circumstances in which human activities carry a risk of harmful effects on the environment.

All monitoring strategies and programmes have reasons and justifications which are often designed to establish the current status of an environment or to establish trends in environmental parameters. Monitoring is of little use without a clear and unambiguous definition of the reasons for the monitoring and the objectives that it will satisfy.

In all cases the results of monitoring are reviewed and analysed statistically. More importantly, the design of a monitoring programme is focused towards the final use of the data before monitoring starts.

In many cases, individual monitoring projects are designed to fit into a wider strategic framework, without which the results may not be published and the environmental understanding produced by the monitoring will be lost.

As you can imagine, the vast range of monitoring projects makes it nigh on impossible to give more detail at this stage. However please contact us for a no-obligation consultation to discuss your project and to begin the process of designing a system to record the range of data required.
